ABSTRACT
My privilege as the first author of this chapter is to write the introduction to this chapter. One of the things that I learned from my friend and mentor, Jack Damico, to whom this volume is dedicated, is the importance of stories. As a matter of fact, we traveled to the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesboro, Tennessee, several years ago. The stories, told by the world’s best storytellers, were powerful. Many of the stories were fiction, but many others were not. We talked about the power of storytelling and how it can be used as a learning tool. Histories have been passed on through oral tradition in story forms. The power of stories or narratives can be limitless. Narrative research is indeed a classic method of inquiry within the qualitative research paradigm (Creswell, 2009; Damico & Simmons-Mackie, 2003).
