ABSTRACT

Cyberbullying can be mean-minded, vicious, cumulative, and end in tragedy. In Ireland, over a three-month period in the second half of 2012, three young girls, Ciara Pugsley aged 15 of County Leitrim, Erin Gallagher aged 13 of County Donegal, and Lara Burns aged 12 of County Kildare all committed suicide. Cyberbullying was cited as a major reason or a contributing factor. Shannon Gallagher, the 15 year-old sister of Erin, also took her own life a few months after Erin’s suicide and became a secondary victim of cyberbullying.
