ABSTRACT
Effective design arises from a full consideration of all the influences upon the solution, as they relate to one another. A holistic approach implies that the relationships between the many relevant factors in any particular case will be identified and prioritised, but will not be considered in isolation from one another. The simplest way to understand this is perhaps to examine how traditional forms of building have come into being.
