ABSTRACT
It is quite commonplace to accept without question that the space in a building, and the way in which it is arranged, as well as the characteristics of the envelope which surrounds that space, can only be finalised after a process of analysis of need and the application of scientific knowledge. Objective standards are naturally evoked as a basis for such decisions.
