ABSTRACT
Buildings are designed and built to provide shelter and comfort. This chapter will attempt to introduce various environmental factors that help describe the level of comfort experienced by occupants. The material presented in this chapter will enable the reader to:
physics; • understand the links between the various environmental factors
and human comfort; • appreciate the relationship between environment, comfort and
resources used to produce the built environment; • gain some introductory knowledge of design targets for the vari-
ous environmental aspects; and • appreciate the holistic nature of the design process.
