ABSTRACT

Infants live with adults who take care of them. These adults may or may not include their fathers. One infant may live with a mother and father. Another may live with only a mother or only a father, or with a parent and grandparent, or with a parent and the parent’s romantic partner who is not biologically related to the infant. The presence of fathers and their involvement with their infants varies widely. These variations affect infants’ lives in ways we are only beginning to understand.
