ABSTRACT

Vegetarianism, a diet of grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds, with or without eggs and dairy products, rejects animal bodies as a source of food. Motivations for vegetarianism vary from ethical objections to the slaughter of animals to expectations of improved personal health. In developed countries, vegetarianism is often also a rejection of a form of animal-based agriculture (factory farming), which is regarded by many as particularly cruel and environmentally devastating.
