RABINOFF, SOPHIE (1889-1957) Russian-born U.S. public health physician. Born 19 May 1889 in Mogileff, Russia, to Rose (Horuntz) and Louis Rabinoff. Came to N.Y.C. as infant (1889). Educated public schools New York; Hunter College (1906-1908); Woman’s Medical College, Philadelphia (M.D., 1913); Columbia University, DeLamar Institute Public Health (M.S.P.H., 1945); Diplomate in Preventive Medicine and Public Health. Professional experience: Beth Israel Hospital, New York, first woman intern (1913), resident in pediatrics (19141917); pediatric clinic Mount Sinai Hospital, physician (19251934); New York Infirmary for Women and Children, cardiologist (1930); Union Health Center, physician; New York City Depart­ ment of Health, part-time pediatrician (1919-1934); New York Medical College, clinical instructor in public health (1939), profes­ sor of public health and preventive medicine, director (1941-1956). Died 2 October 1957 in New York City.
