ABSTRACT
Camera clausa, camera ottica, and other variants refer to a “darkened chamber” into which an image or a picture of a scene outside is cast on a wall or screen through a small opening, or aperture. The phenomenon seems to have been known in several ancient cultures, particularly for casting images of the Sun, especially during eclipses.
