ABSTRACT

The worry about whom the adult educator should approach or willingly respond to, the worry about priorities in the allocation of a centre’s resources, is exacerbated and may even be caused by the continual confusion over the word ‘community’. Adult education is being urged to increase its community provision, to cater more meaningfully for the community, to orient itself more realistically towards community needs, but who are we actually referring to when we use this imprecise, foggy word?
