ABSTRACT

Poland is the second largest Eastern European socialist country, with a present population of 38 million. For the past forty years the development of higher education has taken place within the context of a centrally planned socioeconomic system whose ideological roots are MarxismLeninism. Nowadays, Poland is a country in transition in which major political. economic, and ideological issues, including those related to higher education, are subject to reinterpretation and change.
