Lenin as Economist
This paper is not intended as a survey of Lenin's economic policies. Such a survey would require an examination of the history of the Russian revolution, of War Communism and of NEP, which would not be justified in the present context. An attempt will be made below to consider Lenin's qualities as an economic theorist, and to some limited extent also to examine the theories implied by the manner in which Lenin tackled practical issues. The latter approach is justified in his last years, when he was evidently much too busy to set down much of significance on theory as such.
