Sectoral approaches to carbon management
As discussed in Chapter 2, reducing greenhouse gas emissions requires action across all sectors of the economy and society, and the built environment provides many challenges and opportunities for doing so. The specific challenges faced by the built environment and strategies to address carbon in new build, existing stock and cities are presented in Section B. This chapter summarises the key sectors and other areas where there is significant potential to reduce the emissions from built environments and the infrastructures that underpin them. However, it is important to remember that there is a high level of interactivity between all of these systems, and the most effective strategies to reduce emissions will be those that account for these and capitalise on any opportunities to use packages of measures to deliver greater cumulative outcomes.
