ABSTRACT

CONNECTING WITH USERS Th e “access entitlement principle” is a core principle of the highly infl uential Standards for Distance Learning Library Services which evolved from the frequently revised Guidelines fi rst introduced by the Association of College & Research Libraries in 1963 (ACRL,2008). All members of a higher education institution must have equitable access to its library services and resources, and have direct communication with library staff , regardless of their location. One of the greatest challenges for distance librarians is bridging the distance between remote users and their libraries. To meet this challenge, librarians must fi nd creative ways to make their libraries more visible and present to distance learning communities and ensure they are meeting their needs.
