ABSTRACT

PRINCIPLES AND PROCESSES OF INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN In conventional educational settings, the design of teaching and learning has always been the role and responsibility of the individual teacher in the classroom. But in distance education, teachers-in-charge, largely as subject matter experts, could no longer be responsible for the entire teaching and learning transaction. Th e development of printed and other types of study materials for self-study by distance learners required a team eff ort with signifi cant input in the educational process from instructional designers and media producers. Th is brought into the educational process the need for specialized skills in instructional design and media production, and in supporting learning in noncontiguous educational environments.
