ABSTRACT
The problem of automatic item generation (AIG), namely the use of algorithmic methods for automatically and systematically generating a multitude of test items, is attracting increasing interest in the educational-assessment community. After computer-supported online lesson delivery, the AIG research agenda represents the second most important use of computers in supporting education objectives.
