The influence of cultural and linguistic backgrounds on the social and academic adjustment of students at an ethnic minority university in China
This research explores the extent to which cultural and linguistic background
influences minority students’ social and academic adjustment at the university
level. Specifically, the research examined personal and collective self-esteem,
collegiate psychological sense of community, and social and academic adjust-
ment of four types of students, grouped according to self-reported ethnic and
Chinese language ability and knowledge of their language and culture.
