An outline of the world's wind circulation and weather systems, and their part in the variations of weather and climate, with notes of some relationships to birds and the living world

The following brief sketch of the development of the general wind circulation and individual weather systems is based on a lecture given to members of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and others at the 1975 Joint Conference of the British Trust for Ornithology and Climatic Research Unit, at Swan wick, Derbyshire, on 15 February 1975, and originally published in Bird Study, 22(3), 1975, pp. 121-141. Some attention is given to the effects on birds, insects, pollen transport, etc.
