ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the principle of social environment and its application to L2 writing, and outlines practices and activities to help learners:
recognize when they are having difficulty learning or achieving goals;
develop a positive attitude toward seeking help;
learn social skills for effective interaction with peers, instructors, and learning support staff;
develop strategies for seeking, finding, and evaluating help; and
build a community of learning for writing improvement.
