The quick and the dead: state and nomad war-machines in Deleuze and Virilio

This chapter carries forward the discussion of the relationship between speed and the state. However, where Chapter 1 focused primarily on the temporal characteristics of this relationship, investigating the ways in which speed events force attention to rifts in time, fostering anti-democratic sentiments, in this chapter we will look at the spatial implications of speed’s relationship with the state, looking at how changes in the velocity of warfare underlie various reorganizations of territory and geography.
