ABSTRACT
Per head of the military, the UAE defence budget is by some way the largest in the Middle East. In future, the challenge for the economy is the continuing dependence on petroleum and the proportionately large size of the expatriate workforce. Following the decision to locate the headquarters of the GCC Monetary Council in Riyadh, the UAE government announced that the UAE would not join the GCC single currency.
