ABSTRACT
It seems strange to me that as maths progresses to ever more complex concepts that, in many classrooms, materials and manipulatives are no longer used. Somewhere, sometime in the history of maths most of these materials became associated with young children and the early stages and concepts of maths. Maybe that was because some materials look childish. Maybe that it is down to the bright, primary colours used with many materials.
