Western European Jewry in the early modern period
Following the pattern of Jacob ben Asher's code (Sefer Ha-Turim), the Shulchan Arukh begins with laws concerning Jewish behaviour in the home and synagogue. In the next part objects which are forbidden and permitted are elaborated and discussed. In the following part of the Shulchan Arukh marriage and family matters are explained in detail. The final part of Caro's code deals with various aspects of civil law.
