ABSTRACT

Should prospective teachers have to study psychology? What psychological knowledge does a teacher need? There are likely to be many different answers to these questions. To the apprentice teacher who dislikes mathematics but is required to take a statistically orientated course in educational psychology, for example, the torture he undergoes seems futile, and nothing the instructor says or does will ever influence his teaching. To the instructor, on the other hand, no subject is more relevant to teaching, for he is certain that current research in his field is producing important results that will revolutionize education.
