As our playful chapter title suggests, from a certain perspective there is something askew with the objections that clients (and sometimes therapists) make at the outset of counseling with regard to having more playfulness, fun, and joy. It is important to be prepared for this and have an approach to managing these objections so that you can go deeper as your counseling proceeds. Before we delve into the details of the barriers to creating playful and joyful marriages, let us take a brief look at the kinds of objections that clients sometimes make at the outset. We address them briey now and then spiral down and examine assumptions that underlie them.
