ABSTRACT
I wouldn’t recommend that children try their hand at writing scripts until they are reasonably adept at prose stories and have a fair command of character and story structure. They will need to have mastered the basics, because when they tackle scriptwriting they will have to take the skills they have already acquired and start using them in a rather different way. They will need to start thinking about stories in more visual terms than they have previously – showing rather than telling.
