ABSTRACT
Background Information Mexico is a federal republic situated in North America. Its offi cial name is United Mexican States (Estados Unidos Mexicanos). It has a territory of nearly 2 million square kilometers and borders the United States of America in the north and Guatemala and Belize in the south. Across the country environmental conditions, habitats, microhabitats, climate, and geology vary widely, ranging from deserts to tropical rainforests to mountains, generating a great variety of vegetation and fauna.
