ABSTRACT
The objective of this chapter is to present the basic philosophy behind the development of reliability-based design codes. The concepts presented in Chapter 5 are used to calibrate design codes so that designers can create designs with a consistent level of reliability without doing a detailed reliability analysis for each design.
