ABSTRACT

In the last three chapters, we have seen that contemporary probation has been dominated by the risks, needs and responsivity (RNR) model. In this chapter, other perspectives are considered – ones that propose different starting points and other ways of understanding the processes of personal change, with implications for the way in which probation can work with these processes. Sometimes these perspectives can complement the RNR model, but at other times they pose challenges to it.
