ABSTRACT
Introduction The police forces of England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are central to the detection and investigation of crime, the maintenance of a peaceful society and protection of citizens from criminal activities. In this chapter we look fi rst at the organisation of the police and then turn to police powers.
