ABSTRACT

This course is one of the few you will ever take that integrates many different disciplines-psychology, physiology, biology, health, sociology, and even thehumanities. Unless you are a science major, it is probably not absolutely necessary for you to have perfect understanding of all the material presented in this chapter. We are more concerned that you grasp the broad strokes. With that goal in mind, the first time you read this chapter work toward comprehension of main ideas contained in each section, most of which come down to the main idea that prolonged stress wreaks havoc in almost every part of the body.
