ABSTRACT

Eurofest is an exciting simulated international trade fair developed by the Selby Modern Languages Forum, Routes into Languages (Yorkshire and Humber), NYBEP and the University of Hull in 2008 to encourage the active use of foreign languages and to increase the number ofYear Nine students selecting languages as part of their options. In essence, teams of students from local schools come to a central venue to sell products which they have designed themselves and run both trade and tourist information stands – and have a lot of fun at the same time! By incorporating languages, business, enterprise and business partners, the aim is also to raise the profile of the subject area. This serves to help young people identify careers and progression opportunities in these industries and raise their interest and aspirations in pursuing careers in the sector. The Eurofest project won a European Award for Languages in 2009 and the Euro London Appointments Business Prize in the same year.
