ABSTRACT

According to Johnson (2001), diversity resistance is a term that can be used to describe any interference that “precludes the harmonious assimilation of diversity into an organization.” Further, diversity resistance refiects the unconscious behavior of otherwise well-meaning individuals who would not intentionally harm other human beings (Johnson, 2003). These descriptions of diversity resistance may lead one to falsely conclude that such resistance is somewhat innocuous, as if resistance were merely the absence of harmony or an unintended side effect or byproduct.
