ABSTRACT
At 25 years of age, Robert enrolled in community college. Having a wife and young child while working full-time made focusing on school diffi cult; however, Robert was ready for the challenge. He had been working for fi ve years as a licensed vocational nurse aft er attending Job Corps (a vocational training program). His primary goal while at community college was to make a career change and enter a profession about which he was more passionate. To a lesser degree, he was also motivated to attend college for fi nancial aid, particularly loans, which had the short-term benefi t of providing his family with a greater quality of life.
