The Communication Discipline
A more complete examination of the route we have traveled in coming from our beginning ... to our present position is well worth the undertaking. ... Based on Gray’s premise and the need to provide a context for understanding the diversity of tasks that face the communication educator, this chapter surveys the development of the communication discipline in the United States and then explores its current status in terms of goals and structure.
