ABSTRACT

Mass media are not monolithic. Newspapers not only differ from television, but also among themselves. Despite wide agreement on the major items of daily news, media differ in the placement of that news and in the details included. If you look closely, you can find traces of differences resulting from different regions, gender perspectives, and unique publications. At broader levels, there are nuances of cultures that are evident in the media of different minorities that attempt to both reflect the larger culture and serve specialized audiences. This is true of a growing segment of the United States, the publications of U.S. Latino citizens.
