The Knowledge Cycle
Having explored the architecture of the major systemic documents in this discourse community, we can climb Olympus for a distant but more encompassing view of the way in which they produce knowledge. We are looking for a grand pattern here. Our context is the broad range of discourse that conveys the interactions of the defense S&T market. It includes all of the transactional documents that the past few chapters have been tracking, as well as the capability statements. As part of the acquisition process, the transactional documents are exchanged between customers and vendors in the ongoing design of R&D projects; they serve designated functions in the defense S& T market. The capability statements serve a different function in the market; they help position the participants for projects yet to come.
