ABSTRACT

Throughout this book, we have focused on how the world in which we live is one of constant change that is volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA)—some wonderful, surprising, and awe-inspiring; others uncontrollable, disastrous, and resulting in heartbreak. We have noted that many changes, such as the increasingly volatile political situation of Middle Eastern Arabic nations, or natural disasters, are beyond our control and occur whether we long for them or not. Other changes, such as new policies related to school boundaries, literacy, or increased inclusion of special education students, are within our control but require moral courage and political will for change to occur. We have seen many instances of change that needs to happensome would say that should have happened and that has not occurred-because it is still waiting for transformative educational leaders to take a courageous stand. The latter require courageous transformative leaders working together-sometimes in the face of political opposition, sometimes in the face of tradition to implement change that rectifi es wrongs.
