ABSTRACT

The two quotes that begin this chapter are indicative of some of the many ways in which people in organizations use their power to perpetuate the uneven playing fi eld of the status quo and to ensure their privilege at the expense of others. These are hard words with which to open a chapter-inappropriate use of power, perpetuation of privilege-but unless transformative educators understand the systemic and institutional realities of the organizations within which they work, transformation will be impossible.
