ABSTRACT
The term laissez-faire, though of course French, is currently much more common in English. It designates an unrestricted system of capitalism, in which the role of the state is at most confined to police, justice, and defence. This system is favoured by contemporary libertarians, e.g. the American economist Rothbard and his followers.
