ABSTRACT

This chapter considers some questions relating to various aspects of Sraffa’s early economic writings and to his early approach to political economy. In general, the discussion will be based upon documents preserved by Piero Sraffa himself and now kept in Cambridge at the Wren Library of the Trinity College but in some cases it will use information contained in documents kept in other archives or already available in print but not yet employed in relation to a reconstruction of Sraffa’s intellectual biography. The chapter is divided into three sections that consider issues concerning Sraffa’s writings on money and banking, his relation- ship with Antonio Gramsci, and the origin of his 1925 and 1926 articles.
