ABSTRACT
As we saw in Chapter 2, the ‘good life’ can mean either the life of moral goodness or the personally flourishing life. In the Puritan tradition, relentless work was straightforwardly a moral duty – no two ways about it. Outside that tradition, work’s place in a flourishing life is, as we have seen, far less clear-cut.
