ABSTRACT

We, middle school English language arts teaching colleagues Maryanne and Liz, met to discuss Part IV: Changing Teachers, Teaching Changes. We were asked to respond as a contribution to the new edition of Reconceptualizing the Literacies in Adolescents’ Lives. The text that follows attempts to capture our most salient impressions of these three chapters. We responded to the articles in light of our own professional journeys. Because we are close colleagues, our journeys sometimes intersect; at other times, they diverge. Nevertheless, as we talked, we were of one mind about the factors that we deem important for the effective implementation of professional development in today’s educational climate.
