ABSTRACT

This chapter sets out to evaluate the use of digital storytelling – the combination of narrative and digital media – as an alternative form of assessment. Drawing on underpinning pedagogies of storytelling, reflection and identity, this chapter will discuss the value of digital storytelling as a means of developing twenty-first-century literacies, student voice, reflective practice and how it challenges traditional read/write practices. The chapter concludes by considering the issues it raises as an alternative form of assessment.
