Innovative Fundraising and Engagement Programs

Research suggests that there are not a vast amount of new fundraising programs. Now certainly, with the advent of technology, we are using new methods of connecting such as electronic mail and cellphone texting but the basic premise of aligning donor’ interest to institutional needs remains the same. The challenge for HBCUs as well as all charitable organizations is to identify that mixture of fundraising vehicles that meet today’s potential supporters where they are and appeals to their specific area of interest. Just like the premise of this book, which recognizes that there are differences associated with fundraising at a Black institution compared to a majority institution, among individual supporters, there are many unique nuances as well. The following examples showcase how many HBCUs are becoming more aware of the need to recognize differences in donors and are creating engagement programs that address a variety of their constituent’s interest.
