There are many standard practices in fundraising. However, fundraising within the HBCU context is unique and requires the participation of the entire campus. Successful fundraising requires an ‘all campus approach’ with the assistance of upper level administrators, faculty, student services staff, students, and alumni. Each of these groups needs to understand the role that they play and the impact that they have on the financial stability of the HBCU. As we have demonstrated throughout this book, HBCUs are an important part of the higher education landscape and are deserving of support from both internal and external constituencies. They are contributing in meaningful ways to their surrounding communities as well as on a national level. Having a systematic approach to fundraising is essential to the future of HBCUs.
