ABSTRACT

Stroke is the leading cause of disability in North America . While the percentage of patients receiving any type of therapy in the years after a stroke is estimated to be as low as 10%, research indicates those who do receive therapy report lower levels of disability and related problems (DeAngelis, 2010) . The links between chronic illness and couple relationships and the use of emotionally focused therapy in particular have been described in the literature (Johnson, 2002; Kowal, Johnson, & Lee, 2003; MacIntosh & Johnson, 2008; Mikail, 2003; Naaman, Johnson, & Radwan, in press) .
