Adult ambassadors and textile interventions: the birth of a creative youth panel
Chapter overview This case study describes how a secondary school in the West Midlands developed a creative ‘youth panel’. The chapter explores the role of adult ambassadors in youth participation work, and the need to recognise this support. Adults are always involved in successful participation activities, perhaps providing access to skills, networks, and/or a range of material and cultural resources and facilities. In particular the case study explores the connected challenges of:
„ increasing the power of student voices through involving them in decision making and working with staff;
„ supporting staff to take notice and hear what young people have to say; „ recognising the effects of adult support, for example on who is asked to speak, about what, to whom.
