ABSTRACT
Because modern industrialized societies possess the basic goods and services to satisfy the needs of citizenry, people today have the luxury of seeking a fulfi lling life rather than mere economic sustenance. This shift in focus is justifi ed due to the fact that increased levels of societal wealth have not eliminated social problems. Furthermore, economic measures do not necessarily reveal how a nation is performing in terms of fairness and justice, trust, and enjoyment of life.
