ABSTRACT

In the preceding seven chapters, the TOMCs for Tropical Africa's export crops were intensively examined, and, although an initial examination may miss certain points, valuable insights have been gained. First, there are considerable organizational differences between the TOMCs for (a) commodities, (b) auction crops, (c) minor crops, and (d) perishable crops. Second, high marketability is an important product characteristic. Third, the TOMCs for highly marketable crops are easier to organize and to keep going. Fourth, there is a close relationship between high marketability and the existence of an institutional world market. 1
